Sandy Jardine (Owner)

About Me: I am an MSW, RSW and a graduate of the Faculty of Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University and I have been a clinical social worker for more than 20 years. I am a Maritimer through and through and an Acadian in my roots. My Background: I have worked in various settings. I have been a clinical investigator with the Office of the Children's Lawyer and an associate faculty and coordinator of the Applied Counselling post-degree, post-diploma program at Conestoga College. I spent over 10 years working with the Waterloo Region Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Treatment Centre responding to acute cases of sexual and intimate partner violence. I am currently a Field Education Coordinator with the School of Social Work at Renison College at the University of Waterloo, as well as an occasional sessional lecturer with the Renison School of Social Work and Wilfrid Laurier University. For more than a decade, in my private practice, I have worked with individuals, couples and families. My Practice: I provide trauma-informed counselling to individuals, couples and families. I am located in southern Ontario, but with the assistance of virtual platforms, can now provide support across the province. I work with veterans, first responders, workers in the health and justice systems, victims of violence to heal from the effects of work-related trauma, PTSD, and PTSI.  I am a registered social worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). I am also a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW), the Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW). Presentations, Workshops, Lectures: I provide education and training to workplaces across the country as a trainer and consultant. I am certified as a DBT therapist, a Clinical Traumatologist, a Field Trauma Specialist, and a Compassion Fatigue Specialist, certified through the Traumatology Institute of Canada. I provide on-site and off-site critical debriefs to workplaces and communities for those affected by tragedy and trauma. I also provide continuing education regarding trauma, compassion fatigue, self-care, as well as a myriad of other trainings, both locally and nationally. I am available as a speaker to groups of any size regarding trauma, trauma informed organizations, counselling skills, single session helping, and violence. About Me: I have been a registered social worker for close to 25 years. I have an MSW from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario where I spent the first years of my career before moving to KW. As a first-generation Canadian, I value the importance of family history and culture on one's experiences. This understanding is an essential part of my work. I speak three languages and enjoy ongoing professional learning. ​My Background: My career began in the Emergency Department of a trauma center, providing social work services to patients and families in crisis. I moved on to work in a variety of health care roles, including becoming the Director of a Critical Incident Stress Management Team. I have taught social work at a community College as well as two Universities. For the last 10 years, I have focused on my private practice, specializing in the areas of trauma and mental health. ​My Practice: I have a broad range of experience supporting individuals and families facing a variety of life's challenges. I have advanced training in working with those who have experienced trauma and PTSD, as well as anxiety, depression, loss, and intimate partner violence. I work from a trauma-informed and client-centered approach. I am trained in EMDR, Clinical Supervision, DBT certified, and I am able to provide services in English, Portuguese and Spanish. ​I am a registered social worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). I am also a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW), the Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW), and the Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing International Association (EMDRIA).
Nadine Bengert

About Me: I have a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Renison University College (at University of Waterloo) and am a registered Social Worker with the OCSWSSW and a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers and Canadian Association of Social Workers. I have been practicing in the field for over 10 years. My Background: For most of my career I have worked in primary care and community counselling providing individual and couples counselling, facilitating workshops and groups on mental health, and providing mental health training to corporate clients. I have also worked doing in-home therapy for a leading community healthcare provider, facilitated bereavement groups with Hospice Waterloo Region and acted as an External Field Instructor for BSW candidates at my alma mater. My practice: I provide counselling to individuals who are experiencing challenges around anxiety, depression, anger, relationship issues, parenting and child issues, self-harm, chronic pain/illness, grief/loss, and trauma/abuse, etc. I practice Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and am trained in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills. Additionally, I have completed training in the Gottman Model and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples through the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT). Although located in southern Ontario, I can offer support virtually anywhere in the province of Ontario.
Akiesha Absolon-Winchester

About me: I am of mixed settler and Anishinaabe ancestry. I have completed a Bachelor of Arts and an Honors Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Waterloo. I have also completed a Master of Social Work specializing in Indigenous Field of Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University. I am a registered social worker with over a decade of experience in the field of Social Work. My background: I have experience in various settings. My career began in corrections supporting incarcerated Indigenous young men and women. I have experience working in Indigenous community mental health, grief and loss, child welfare, and education. I am currently working mostly in education, private practice, community mental health, and am an instructor for Wilfrid Laurier University's Centre for Indigegogy Professional Development Wholistic Healing Practices certificate program. I am a certified 500-hour yoga practitioner and have published written work related to reconciliation and intergenerational healing. My practice: I provide a wholistic and trauma-informed approach to practice. I bring both Indigenous and mainstream approaches to wellness into my practice as I support individuals in their healing journey. I am a registered social worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) as well as the British Columbia College of Social Workers (BCSW). I am also a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW).

About Me: I have been a Registered Social Worker (RSW) for over a decade, and received my Masters of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University. I also have my Certificate in Couple and Family Therapy and am a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist. I grew up in the KW area and am happy to be working here. My Background: I have spent a great deal of my career working both in the community, as well as the post-secondary environment. I have worked at various community agencies providing individual, family, and couples counselling, as well as providing groups for women and children coming out of domestic violence situations. I worked with a variety of presenting concerns including relationships, mental health challenges, trauma, parenting, self-esteem, family dynamics, etc. I have also worked at multiple post-secondary schools in their counselling services departments seeing individuals in crisis, struggling with mental health, relationships, life transitions, neurodiversity, health concerns, grief, family dynamics, and domestic violence. My Practice: I work from an eclectic perspective incorporating elements from CBT, Solution-Focused, Narrative, and Strengths perspective, as well as various others. I am a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers (OCSWSSW) as well as a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW). I am also a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist with the Canadian Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (CAMFT). In addition, I am a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
Shawna Bernard

About Me: I am an MSW, RSW and have been practicing as a social worker for the past 25 years. I graduated from the Master of Social Work program at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo. Prior to that, I worked as a teacher for several years after obtaining my B.A. and B.Ed. from the University of Prince Edward Island. My Background: For the past 25 years, I have been working as a clinical social worker with college and university students at Wilfrid Laurier University and Conestoga College in Kitchener-Waterloo. I have completed the Applied Mindfulness Meditation Specialist program (Levels A and B) through the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto. My Practice: In my clinical practice, I have experience providing support to clients on diverse issues such as stress, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, cultural adaptation, 2SLGBTQ identity, suicidal ideation, trauma/ abuse, and life transitions. I am a trained group facilitator and have previously facilitated various mindfulness and meditation groups as well as multicultural and performance anxiety groups. I have facilitated many psychoeducational workshops on topics such as stress management, mindfulness, culture shock and acculturation, anxiety, sexual assault prevention, self-care and resiliency, and suicide prevention. I am a registered social worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). I am a certified safeTALK (Suicide Alertness for Everyone) trainer with LivingWorks: Suicide Prevention Training Centre. I am also the current Past Chair of Ontario College Counsellors (OCC-CCCO).

About Me: I have a Bachelor of Business Administration from Conestoga College, with a focus on Accounting. Much of my work experience has been related to finance and taxes. I have been working with Kitchener Therapy Collaborative, since it's inception, providing administrative support. I have worked in a similar capacity in another counselling practice.
